GUN WIZARD Day Four Progress


GUN WIZARD is coming along nicely! Here are the updates for today:

  • You can now move using WASD (and ,AOE if you’re using a Dvorak keyboard) as well as the arrow keys.
  • There are more music tracks, plus a toggle to pass over any that are registered with the ContentID database (in case anybody wants to stream this). I have the rights to use all of them in the game, but I can’t stop YouTube being YouTube if people put footage on there.
  • The background is now textured, so you can tell the wizard is moving even if no other objects are on screen.
  • There’s a new enemy! The cyclops has a lot of health, but no armour.
  • Knights spawn less frequently (since the cyclopes can absorb their share of bullets).
  • Guns spawn more frequently, and closer to the wizard (with a nice little sparkle to boot!).
  • Enemies now spawn in squads rather than individually. Squads get larger over time.

I suspect the overall effect of these changes are that the game’s straying a little from the “overpowered” jam theme. However, I’m hoping to add experience and upgrades before the nine days are up, so it made more sense to err or the side of caution and make it a little harder to begin with, rather than finely balance the thing and then throw in EVEN MOAR GUNS. I’m also tempted to have enemies drop ammo, though that has the potential to turn the wizard into an unstoppable bullet vortex unless carefully managed.
